MSB S3E12: Rocks and Rolls

38. Rocks and Rolls.
Topic: Erosion.

The class is sculpting a statue of Captain Walker, their city's founder. Captain Walker left instructions on how he wanted this statue sculpted in the form of a poem. Ms. Frizzle's class interprets the meaning--he wants it sculpted without the use of hands--a little too literally. However, the statue breaks off the top of the mountain, and falls down. The Friz turns the bus into a rock and follows. Water erosion reduces the statue to a head by the time they reach the bottom. Desperate to get to the ceremony, the bus cracks open a dam of rocks that has formed and slides down the mountain. However, they found that somehow they made the mountain into a statue of Captain Walker's head and realize that Captain Walker had wanted his statue sculpted through erosion!

 In this episode, it's Walkerville's 100th birthday, and the hostess is Captain Walker's great granddaughter Ashley Walker-Club-Dupree.

And this is what Captain Crasnick P. Walker looked like, as well as his horse. 

Aren't Arnold's parents proud of their only born son? 

Look. Liz built a snow Valerie! Did she do it all on her own? 

Wanda shouldn't have done that, or else the rock would start causing the statue of Captain Walker to crumble. 

Good thing Arnold is reminding the whole class to finish the statue since it's time for the ceremony. 

So it wasn't just a snow Frizzle. It's actually Valerie Frizzle! 

As Ralphie would say, is it just me or is that melted ice eroding the statue? 

Come on! Ride on The Magic School Rock! It's going to rock and roll! 

"No Wonder!"
"No wonder what?"
"Wonder was his horse, remember? And now, there's no Wonder!"

Good one, Keesha and Wanda. Although Keesha was getting the facts. 

Not a good idea, Arnold. Use Liz to grab the remains of Captain Walker, because you'll fall down the waterfall! 

Now Ashley's telling Rock Rock jokes. Even lamer than Carlos' lamest joke. 

The class is upside-down! Lucky they have their seatbelts on! 

"His nose is almost gone!"
"You know what they say! No nose is good nose!"
"Carlos!"

Good one, Carlos! 

 These rock suits are pretty cool!

" Yeah! I've always wanted to be a rock star!"
"Carlos!"

Another good one, Carlos! 

"I think I'm the one who should've stayed home today."

Now it's Ralphie who's using Arnold's catchphrase. 

"Yeah! We're on the erode to ruin! "

Good one, Dorothy Ann! 

Ride on The Magic School Raft! 

Now some people are leaving! However, the parents and guardians of the main class are still here. 

Now all that's left of Captain Walker is his head, but Ashley isn't concerned about that. 

Get a look at the mountain! It looks exactly like Captain Walker! 

And he's lost his nose. As Carlos said, no nose is good nose. 

Ashley is in the Producer Segment, and she's not all happy about the episode. 

Bus did its stuff! Using frost breath to freeze the jar and break it. 

It worked! Liz did hear the caller talk about freezing a jar of water, causing the ice to expand.


One interesting fact about this episode is that we learn the history of Walkerville, and how it was founded.

Also, about Ashley Walker-Club-Dupree, she's voiced by none other than Jessica Walter.

There were puns galore, and even some kids using catchphrases of the other kids. Ralphie using Arnold's catchphrase, and even Dorothy Ann doing Carlos' pun routine.

The way that statue of Captain Walker eroded was pretty interesting to watch. It shows what happens to rocks when they're wet. They erode overtime.

Interesting that Keesha sarcastically came up with an idea to erode a rock, only for Ms. Frizzle and Arnold to take her seriously, eventually turning into a good idea.

Though I noticed a little bit of dialogue that seems to have been recycled. When Carlos made his rock star pun, everyone called out "Carlos!" They sounded just the way they did in Hops Home when he made a mishop pun.

Though it was pretty weird that the class had made a mountain of Captain Walker's head, it was a great way to learn about how rocks erode when they're wet, and it's a good thing the Producer explained that rocks take longer to erode and how the Grand Canyon was made. And Carlos' puns, Ralphie using Arnold's catchphrase and Dorothy Ann making a pun were pretty funny. Though it was creative of the class to not realise they made Captain Walker Mountain.
