MSB S3E02: In the Arctic

Here I am, going to take chances, make mistakes, get frozen and try to keep myself warm by going into the arctic and see how to keep warm without losing any heat to cold weather. Blog, do your stuff!

28. In the Arctic.
Topic: Heat.

Arnold wants to know what happened to the heat from his hot cocoa. Ms. Frizzle thinks it is fitting to learn about heat in the land of ice and cold, so she takes the class to the Arctic. However, she accidentally drives the bus into the water, and the bus freezes. But the bus gets washed out to sea. To make matters worse, the bus has been trapped on an ice floe with Phoebe, Ralphie and Liz. The class will have to get to the bus and heat it up to escape.

Looks like Ms. Frizzle is on cafeteria duty. And this further proves that Arnold and Wanda really are opposites. Wanda hates the cold while Arnold doesn't mind it because he gets hot chocolate.

Funny Arnold should mention Wanda was to save the seat for him, and not Harry Arm.

Uh oh. Arnold shouldn't have sat where he was sitting. His hot chocolate is cold chocolate!

Aurora Borealis! In the right time of year, in the right part of the world, localised in the arctic.

"I knew it! We've been Frizzled again!"

"I heard that, Tim! And I like it."

Get used to this. This is the first time Tim says his catchphrase. 

What's funny about this part was that the box Liz was pointing to was under Dorothy Ann's seat and both Wanda and Ralphie pulled it out and she was all "Hey!"

This further proves that Wanda should've stayed home today. Keesha kept opening the window and letting the heat of The Magic School Bus out.

Oh no! Phoebe, Ralphie and the main character are stuck on the ice floe! How are they going to be saved?!

Carlos was right to call his hot water bottle a cold water bottle. The lemon water inside had turned into a frozen block of lemon ice.

Arnold came up with a weird solution here. He suggested tearing out pages from Dorothy Ann's atlas and using the pages to slow heat down.

Now Phoebe's copying Arnold's idea. She tore out the pages for the repair manual, causing Ralphie to say she's nuts!

"Phew! As Ralphie would say, 'Is it just me, or does this heat source smell like a dead fish?'"

Funny that Carlos would use Ralphie's catchphrase for this, especially since Ralphie was stranded with Phoebe. 

Now they're going into a polar bear! Funny they should include a polar bear in this series considering the company that animated this series has always used a polar bear for their logo.

"According to my research, you won't last more than 3 minutes in water this cold!"

Then I don't want to go into arctic water. 

This is a very useful explanation as to how seals, sea lions, walruses and whales survive cold oceans. Blubber.

 

Uh oh. You should've have hugged Phoebe, Keesha. You just let her go!

Who would've known that igloos can trap heat? Maybe this is why Eskimoes make igloos.

This is something interesting. Harry Arm used to be in Ms. Frizzle's class, as shown when he went into detail as to how Arnold kept his hot chocolate hot this time. What's even more interesting is that Amos Crawley voiced him.

Looks like Liz cut a square in the wall to feel that asbestos. Good thing she wore gloves here because of how dangerous it is.

The producer's been blubberised!

Now we're blubberised!

What's interesting about Amos Crawley voicing Harry Arm and mentioning that he was in Ms. Frizzle's class the previous year is the fact that Amos Crawley was originally the voice for Arnold before being replaced by Danny Tamberelli in Season 2. And Harry's voice further explains why they replaced Amos with Danny, and you can hear that Harry's accent and Arnold's accent are different. Amos is Canadian and Danny is American.

I also find it strange that even in the arctic, Phoebe still wore her shortalls while her socks weren't long enough, Keesha still wore a skirt and her leggings weren't enough to keep her legs warm, and Dorothy Ann still wore her pleated skirt with no leg coverings. Made sense for Wanda to still wear her trousers.

It's funny that Carlos used Ralphie's catchphrase in this, and we hear Tim's catchphrase for the first time.

Well, even if there were strange things in this episode, it still was an interesting way to learn about how to keep warm and how to trap heat when it's too cold. All because Arnold wanted to find out how his hot cocoa turned cold. And it further shows Wanda's dislike of the cold. And it was interesting to see a former member of Ms. Frizzle's class and the fact he was voiced by the guy who originally voiced Arnold. Also, it was funny when Keesha hugged Phoebe. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to try and keep warm now.
