HHPAY S1E13: Eye Sore, Mean Machine & Sea Sick + Season 1 overall

Alright, fellow rock stars! I'm here to review for all of you, the Season 1 finale of Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi! Did Season 1 end on a high note? Let's find out!

37. Eye Sore.
Written by: Mark Kausler.
Aired: 25 March 2005.

When Kaz accidentally flushes his glasses down the toilet, the cats find out first hand exactly how blind Kaz is. He unwittingly uses the cats as dust mops, wears them as accessories and nearly destroys the bus.

Kaz flushed his glasses down the toilet! Silly Kaz!

Yeah, Kaz sure looks cool in the mirror.

Kaz thinking cat food was Wasabi Flakes! Boy was he silly!

Oh, Kaz! Wearing Ami's outfit!

Kaz sure is having his revenge without realising it!

Notice that when Kaz puts the cats on his head, he looks like the villainess of One Hundred and One Dalmatians, Cruella De Ville.

This is also one of the few times the cats talk to each other through meowing. Tekirai meowing like Gi, and Jang Keng meowing like Miss Frances.

Look out, Kaz! Heaps of cats!

This is most definitely a funny episode. We get to see how bad Kaz's vision is and unwittingly getting his revenge on the cats for causing trouble for him, and even dressing like Ami! Very funny indeed, this one!
My rating: 9.5/10.

38. Mean Machine.
Written by: Mitch Watson.
Aired: 25 March 2005.

The girls and Kaz meet up with an eccentric inventor who introduces them to his latest creation: an all-in-one music machine. At first the girls love it, until it steals their fans.

Oh boy! Now we see the girls lose their instruments.

Kaz has a teddy bear?

We also get to the first appearance of Maxwell. And must I say, he's acting like Mister Burns from The Simpsons.

Looks like the machine is gone.

This was some episode, wasn't it? We get to see an evil millionaire wanting his evil machine to become superior to Ami and Yumi. Well, I will admit, even though this ep had funny moments, it's one of the weaker of Season 1.

My rating: 8.5/10.

39. Sea Sick.
Written by: Robert and Michelle Lamoreaux.
Aired: 25 March 2005.

Kaz books the girls to be the entertainment on a cruise for “active seniors” where they unexpectedly lock horns with Silky Lame.

Looks like Kaz is actually a baboon. Says Yumi!

So many old people on this cruise.

Why does Silky keep getting in Ami and Yumi's way?

Oh, he wants to get his job back!

Swim for it, Girls!

Well, all I'm going to say is that even though this episode had some funny moments, it was kind of strange. Silky keeps getting in the girls' way, only revealing that he needed to get his talent back. Well, it's a good thing the girls got it back for him at least.

My rating: 8/10.

Final thoughts:
Well, that's Season 1 in a nutshell. Did it end on a high note? Well, kind of. We did get a funny moment of Kaz having bad vision, an evil machine, and even strangely, an Elvis-like singer wanting his position back. Good thing the girls swum for it.

Episode rating: 9/10.

Season 1 final thoughts:
I must say, this was a great start to the little-known Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi. We got funny scenes, loads of homages, and even some catchy, soothing music. Join me next time when I review Season 2.
