70. I Spy with my Animal Eyes.

The kids learn to see the world through the eyes of different animals when careless Arnold loses Carlos' pet rat -- then turns her invisible.

Arnold had been looking everywhere because Ratney's gone!

Time to rewind back to what happened to Ratney.

Arnold left Ratney on a pillow, while he gets her something to eat.

Carlos mentioned how his aunt feels about rats.

So the class is going into Arnold's eye for their field trip.

 

 If you look at Arnold's irises, you'll see they're green. But the episode Goes Cellular showed his eyes to be brown.

"According to my reesearch, we're in the Aqueous Humour. 

This is what helps keep the eyes' shape.

Interesting. We get a close up of the cheese, and the background blurs.

Ratney has escaped!

The way we see is very similar to how a movie projector works.

And there's so much detail in Arnold's eye.

"According to my reesearch, those are rods. They show us shape and movement. They are super sensitive to light."

I'm guessing Ratney wants to play Incy Wincy Ratney, or Hickory Dickory Dout.

Funny how Keesha is explaining how the bus works.

Hmm.... how did The Magic School Bus tie up Ratney to its back?

But now Ratney is oversized! She'll terrorise Walkerville!

Now Ratney's vanished! Where did she go? She's invisible!

It seems to me like Ratney's knocked over the garbage bins.

You may think that Ratney burst this burger balloon, but actually, it's always been deflated.

Come on! Ride on The Magic Eagle Bus!

And this is eagle vision. We can see how eagles see.

"According to my reeesarch, eagles change the shape of their corneas to zoom in on faraway objects."

You may think that Ratney took a bite of this cheese sign, but it's part of the design.

Come on! Ride on The Magic Chipmunk Bus!

Either this woman was knocked over by Ratney, or she lost a heel.

"According to your reesearch, which animal has the best night vision?"

Funny how Wanda would use Dorothy Ann's catchphrase here. 

Now they're going into this angry owl. 

You see, owls have different eyes to us. 

Here is Harold the Fly. Giving Ms. Frizzle an idea.

Here is how flies see. Compoundeyes.

"Am I the only one who doesn't think this is fun?"
"Yes!"

 This was funny.

A spider is about to eat the whole class!

But this sparrow managed to gobble it up.

Here is how sparrows mate. How they see.

The whole class are butterflies, and it shows how butterflies see pollen.

Now the whole class are Ratneys! They have Ratney vision.

So a trap will trap a giant rat.

Rats can mainly see blue.

Ratney's back! And she didn't shrink after all!

But they trapped Edith the Elephant.

Now, Professor Frizzle and Goldie are foreshadowing the next episode.


I find it weird Arnold's eyes turned from brown to green.

It did seem as though Arnold made Ratney invisible, but he did turn her back to normal size.

It does show why our pupils change size. The best way to see that is by looking at your eyes in a mirror.

While this episode was an interesting way to see how we see, and how our eyes are formed, I find it puzzling how Ratney was able to escape her cage. Though it was funny when Ratney climbed up the water spout, prompting The Magic School Bus to change shape. And the kids had very strange beliefs that Ratney destroyed parts of Walkerville. But some of the animals see the colours we can't.
