MSB S5E03: In the Swim

I'm going for a swim in this review. Looking for a school of fish. Not like Walker Elementary, but an actual school of fish. Blog, do your stuff!

55. In the Swim.

Ms. Frizzle takes the class to Hawaii, where an overprotective Wanda gets schooled when she's forced to think like a tiny little fish.

I guess Wanda's the real nature lover she was in Hops Home. But she's feeding some birds here.

Jyoti's cheating here. Using a snowball machine to have snowball fights.

Yep. Arnold's a true snowman, covered in snow.

 

The kids were wondering the exact whenabouts they almost got eaten. I think Carlos was referencing Gets Eaten from Season 1. Jyoti wouldn't understand since she's the new kid. 

Alola! Alola. Fiona's preparing a field trip to Hawaii!

Funny that the main character of the series has his own shades for his headlights.

I like how The Magic School Bus is causing himself to float as a pad on water.

According to Dorothy Ann's reesearch, this is a Lutjanus Kasmira, Bluestripe Snapper.

Funny that Carlos would cry "Shark!" because of this shark video.

In this series, The Magic School Bus looks the way he did in the old series, like the intro.

Who would've thought we'd hear Liz laugh. She was laughing because Ms. Frizzle pressed the wrong button. Just fish crackers.

"I gotta say, this is my finnest achievement!"

"Carlos!"

Another Carlos pun. 

Look at this! It's a sea monster!

No wait. It's a school of fish, or as Wanda called it, a group of fish!

Shark! Not just any shark! It's a Carcharhinus melanopterus, or as Dorothy Ann further explained, Blacktip Reef Shark.

And Carlos found a shark fang.

Further shows Jyoti's creativity. A Super High-tech Underwater Fish Emporium for Becca, Wanda's fish.

Jyoti really is a genius. Becca likes it.

Liz can limbo. She is very good.

Wanda's now connected to her fish, Becca.

Now she's synchronised with her.

"I know what you're thinking, Liz, but today's not a good day to stay home.

Funny how Arnold said the opposite of his catchphrase.

Wanda's stuck! She can't get out!

"Uh-oh! According to my reesearch, I'm toast!"

Dorothy Ann couldn't possibly be toast if she's underwater. 

Now that's a great plan from the whole class with Wanda's idea. A sea monster!

"School is out for the rest of our lives!"

It's funny how Ralphie would say that "School's out"! Reminds me of In a Pickle when he high-fived Carlos, hoping Valerie would dismiss the class. 

 I too wish that holiday lasted until Summer o'clock, Arnold. He's like this.

But regardless, the kids can enjoy the snow now.

And now, Valerie and Goldie are going to research fish and explain why they do what they do.

What's next? Are they once again going to raft a river of lava on The Magic School Bus? Such a fine thing to do!


I find it kind of...odd that Wanda has Phoebe's persona now, probably considering her experience with Bella. Turned Wanda into a weasley wimp herself.

And it seems like Wanda doesn't mind the cold now, since she didn't complain about the snow at the beginning or the end. Yet Arnold dislikes the cold now.

I find Carlos' finnest pun funny. Ralphie's response to Fiona's Hawaiian saying for "School's out for the rest of our lives!" was hilarious, and Dorothy Ann always saying "According to my reesearch". Fiona pressing the wrong button, causing Liz to laugh, was hilarious. Arnold saying today is "not a good day to stay home" was intriguing.

This was a great step up from the previous 2 episodes of this series. It teaches kids about how fish swim and survive, and it showed Wanda's animal loving side. And the way the class scared the shark away was awesome. And Carlos saying "Shark!" was a bit.... odd. So many references to the old series here.

My rating: 9.5/10.
