Members of the class are bringing animals to school and Wanda has brought her frog named Bella. When Bella escapes, Wanda is determined to get her frog back. Ms. Frizzle takes the class to several different places, until they find a perfect frog habitat.
That's a creative way to pull something with wheels without having to use your hands. Tie a rope to your waist and the wagon and pull it like that, just like Wanda here, pulling Bella in her wagon.
Exactly how many fruit flies does Dorothy Ann have? She counts more than 1,000, but considering this is 90s animation, there are no more than 35 drawn.
Oh, Liz! You and your hammock running gag! Can't catch a break, can you? Shows that Liz is here for comedic purposes.
Well what do you know? Phoebe was right! There is a splisher splasher of little tadpoles! Herman and Bella had tadpoles that are now little frogs.
One thing I find strange about this episode is that Frank Welker wasn't credited for voicing Bella.
One thing that is funny about this episode is that Bella and Herman were talking like Pokémon. But considering this came before Pokémon to boot, we can call this "Bella talk" and "Herman talk".
Believe me, if either Arnold or Bella had stayed home in this one, then none of this would've happened. Wanda would still have Bella. It was funny after Arnold said "I think I should've stayed home today." to which Wanda replied "I think Bella should've stayed home today!"
What was also funny was after Arnold suggested Bella eat Corn Flakes or Mallowblasters, Wanda responded with "Bugs, Arnold!" and Phoebe groaned "Ew!" Well, bogs are disgusting.
Carlos sure was funny with his hoppy puns. Like saying Bella will be "hoppy" instead of "happy", upon elbowing Ralphie making a boing. And the class even groaned "Carlos!" in an annoyed manner as soon as the tree was a "Mishop", and he suggested Arnold and Wanda "Fight".
This episode also implies that cats eat frogs and mantises as The Magic School Bus turned into a frog.
This episode was also one of those where Keesha said a variation of her "Let's get the facts," catchphrase. She told Wanda "Look at the facts,"
This is also an episode that uses scientific names for animals, as Ms. Frizzle described the Great Blue Heron as Ardea herodias. Perfect sense, especially since this series is designed to teach kids about science.
And that moment where Wanda said goodbye to Bella at the end is enough to make even the producer cry, as shown in the segment where she watched the scene.
In the very same segment, the caller said that buses can't turn into frogs. Makes sense for the bus to turn into a frog, I mean it's not called "The Magic School Bus" for nothing, right?
When you compare this episode to the series premiere, Wanda really was acting like Janet, only Wanda was refusing to leave without Bella, like how Janet refused to leave without her stuff she took from each planet (except Saturn, Uranus and Neptune), only Arnold didn't do anything to convince Wanda to change her mind, she decided it was her decision.
And Arnold and Wanda's moments in this episode, especially since Arnold was really worried about Wanda when the blue heron struck the beaver habitat, I take is another reason many people who grew up with this series ship the 2.
So overall, this is an edutaining episode about habitats with a tearjerker at the end, showing Wanda really does care about Bella. This is like saying goodbye to a very close friend, family member or pet of your own before leaving them. While Wanda was a bit grumpy here, all because Arnold unwittingly released Bella out of the classroom, it showed she really does care about her former pet frog. And the revelation that Bella and Herman did have tadpoles turned this from a sad ending to a hoppy ending. Ribbit!
Uh-oh. Arnold, you shouldn't have done that. If Arnold had known frogs can hop, he wouldn't have opened the window.
