77. Janet's Mystery Gene.

The bus takes Ms. Frizzle and the class deep inside Arnold's cousin Janet to learn why people's genes make them look, act and feel the way they do.

Carlos is having a problem. He has to read to the kindergarten children with Janet.

 The book is called "Janet: The Untold Story Finally Told".

This really proves Janet to be her snobbish self. And refers to herself as Janet Awesome Perlstein.

As Ralphie is guessing, Janet has no heart.

A nice train Fiona brought in.

Don't know why Liz is giving a thumbs up.

Ralphie was wrong. Janet does have a heart, as in the muscle that pumps blood around your body.

There are many things in our system known as mind controlling roboworms. From the planet Yuck!

"According to my reesearch, those aren't worms at all. They're chromosomes. And they're in almost every cell in the body. 23 pairs every time!"

 This is like Wanda's black hair and Keesha's brown eyes.

It's funny how Carlos made callbacks. What Tim turned into!

And The Magic Spaceship Bus is in Janet's gene system.

Janet can bring Ralphie a pile of pizza.

As Dorothy Ann's reesearch shows, these genes make up deoxyribonucleic acid. DNA.

Come on! Ride on The Magic Cell Train Bus!

There are 4 genes that make up our DNA. A for Adenine. C for Cytosine. G for Guanine, and T for Thymine.

I guess the class don't want to see Arnold's ingrown toenails. Yuck.

"That's gene-ius!"
"Carlos!"

Carlos shouldn't have made this order. The genes in Janet's DNA is breaking!

And Janet is being messed up!

Janet now has black hair!

She has a long nose and bat ears!

She's a tree!

She's a cat!

She's a penguin, who could sure go for a nice tuna sandwich.

She's a lizard!

According to Dorothy Ann's reesearch, 99% of our genetic code come from chimpanzees.

Funny since Ralphie's eating a banana!

Ingrown toenail? Check!

And the class is ready to fix Janet's DNA.

Some people have freckles, others don't.

Bingo, Carlos!

It shows Arnold and Janet's paternal grandparents and Janet's dad. No freckles.

And Janet's parents show Janet with no freckles.

They did fix Janet!

Or so they thought.

Janet's turned into a monkey!

Janet's an aardvark! Hmm.... this sounds familiar.

She's a dog now!

She's Valerie's favourite bird, a heron!

Now Janet's back to normal.

But Janet's not happy with Carlos for being late!

Janet doesn't show her nervousness until Chapter 12.

It's funny that Carlos is being nice to Janet, and touching her nose.

These little kids can't get enough of Janet or her reading!

Valerie, Goldie, and The Magic Scooter Bike are in the sun, foreshadowing the next episode.

This episode finally confirmed it! It confirmed that Arnold and Janet are paternal cousins. How? Well, Janet called herself "Janet Awesome Perlstein", confirming her dad and Arnold's dad to be brothers.

This episode is kind of like Makes a Stink in one way. The class went into Janet's body. Only in that episode, they went into her nose, while in this one, they went into her DNA.

It's funny how Janet turned into all kinds of animals when her DNA was being messed up.

And what Dorothy Ann said was true! And Ralphie eating a banana was pretty funny. Because we do relate to chimpanzees.

And also, I have been thinking. Janet wears glasses, and she turned into an aardvark as Dorothy Ann sent the thymine to Ralphie. Could Janet becoming an aardvark be a reference to Arthur? Since Arthur is an aardvark who wears glasses.

Oh well, this episode was pretty funny, especially with Janet having her DNA messed up, and turning into all kinds of animals. And Carlos claimed that was gene-ius. And Ralphie eating a banana was funny, as was Fiona's bingo! And I don't think Janet will be getting any rest anytime soon. And Carlos trying sweet talk to Janet was quite cute and hilarious!

MSB S6E11: Waste Not, Want Not

Here's a little grossness in the series. But we soon learn that this kind of grossness is important for growing plants. Something Dorothy Ann will learn the easy way. Blog, do your stuff!

76. Waste Not, Want Not.

Every person and animal poops, but the class isn't convinced that this so-called "brown gold" is as valuable as Dorothy Ann's famous inventor uncle says it is.

We've got something we've never seen before. An argument between Arnold and Dorothy Ann, debating between Rock Opera and Flour Power. 

The winner is......

Flour Power!

This topic will involve Dorothy Ann's favourite flower, Singaporean Orchid. Her dad has heaps of those in his greenhouse.

Why explain it when you can sing it?

And that's what the class are doing. Singing.

"Now who's up for a Rock Operaaaaa?"
"Not so fast, Arnold! We can't give up on the theme, or my flowers... yet! 

Anyone know that Ralphie's holding a Jyoti?

And this here, is Dorothy Ann's uncle Axle McValvestuck.

He has a machine that can make brown gold.

Dorothy Ann doesn't like what her uncle whispered to her. What brown gold is.

And how sheepish Dorothy Ann was when she tried singing what it's made of.

"No! No buts! That's where it comes from!"
It's funny because it's true.

Here's a little something to encourage the class.

A disco! Ooh, ooh, Pooh-ka-dump-a-doody.

Liz is pretty groovy dancing.

"At my house, we call it...."

Ralphie's sandwich is made of 50 percent wheat, 30 percent pig, 13 percent tomato, 7 percent mayo, and 100 percent yum. 

Ralphie couldn't help but feed Liz some of his sandwich.

 And they're in pachyderm dump. Butterflies eat it.

Another song describing that animals use it too.

Dung beetles use it to lay eggs in.

"According to my reesearch, there are tons of microscopic detritivores in this soil breaking down the Pooh-ka-dump-a-doody even more.

Come on! Ride on The Magic Cell Bus!

And there is a large cycle going on with these organisms in the waste.

 This elephant really was surprised, seeing The Magic School Bus appearing out of nowhere.

This is the cycle. Plants grow, pachyderms poop, butterflies eat it and dung beetles use it, and grass grow again.

The Magic School Bus doesn't like the sound of the Pooh-ka-dump-a-doody being piled on it.

Let's follow the waste through the sewers!

A whirlpool that helps with the waste.

And they've arrived in the pile of waste at a biotreatment plant.

Come on! Ride on The Magic Dung Beetle Bus!

There's a problem here. Dorothy Ann's uncle's machine is busted.

But Axle and Fiona can break into song about another way.

Excuse the Bus for farting!

And it turns out these nutrients have no germs.

The cycle of life is to be sung! Dorothy Ann's orchids are going to be growing again!

 

It's funny that Dorothy Ann dragged Arnold back onto The Magic School Bus. Sounds a bit familiar, doesn't it?

And they're in the musical, describing this waste and why it's important.

Luckily, there are biotreatment plants around the world to deal with the waste.

It's Frizzle and the Beanstalk!


This episode really is a musical! Even more so than Meets Molly Cule. More songs were sung.

The Nutrient Cycle of Life song reminds me of The Circle of Life from The Lion King. 

That mini disco Dorothy Ann, Fiona, and Liz were in was pretty catchy. And Keesha's reaction to hearing what Wanda calls faeces was pretty funny.

The song the class were singing while in the sewers kind of reminds me of that music from the Thomas the Tank Engine episode, The Diseasel, where Bill and Ben annoyed Boco.

The way Dorothy Ann dragged Arnold back onto the bus was pretty funny. As was their heated argument at the beginning.

Not sure how Axle McValvestuck is related to Dorothy Ann. Could he be related to her paternally? Though I doubt Dorothy Ann's surname is McValvestuck.

This episode was brown gold! Literally! A well sung musical! It gave me a better appreciation of excrement, and why it's important. And it shows that dung beetles lay their eggs in balls of dung they make. Dorothy Ann's role was very interesting, and as Carlos said, this was real flower power!
